Reduce, reuse and recycle
At Great Escape, sustainability is a core value underpinning our decisions and actions. Our fleet of boats is smaller and older than many international charter companies and we’re proud of this as it underpins our conservation mantra of reduce, reuse and recycle.
We promote sailing as an activity, sport and means of travel – using the wind to push us around rather than fossil fuels! We share our love for our slice of paradise and encourage others to appreciate it through education and making it easy to do simple things like recycling and reducing waste when aboard our boats.
As a tourism and education enterprise, we have an obligation and responsibility to protect, restore and enhance our beautiful Bay of Islands.
More than conservation
Sustainability is so much more than conservation.
Great Escape needs to be economically sustainable and we’re focused on this through innovation, quality improvement and investment.
We also need to ensure we have visitor sustainability, meeting and exceeding the expectations of our visitors and we monitor this through informal feedback and review sites such as TripAdvisor, Google and Facebook – we’re proud to say that across all sites we have a 5/5 rating.
Finally, we need to give back to the community in which we operate. Here in Opua in the Bay of Islands we are very fortunate to be able to contribute to our wonderful maritime community in several ways, simple things like choosing to employ and buy locally as much as possible. Engaging with local clubs and associations, organising the WOW (Women on Water) and OBA (Opua Business Association) Decorated Dinghy Christmas Cruise.
